Connecting the Digital Twins: Data and Measurement
Creating and using digital twins requires both an underlying model—built from data regarding the anatomy and functions of the original system—and coupling that model to its analog twin through measurements and data. This session will explore digital twins of cities, discussing both the underlying models and the development of new measurement strategies, examining a decade of research and development by university and national laboratory partners in Chicago.

Panel Discussion: Digital Twin Development and Deployment – Breaking down the Barriers
Digital Twin technology is breaking down old boundaries surrounding product innovation, complex lifecycles, and value creation. Essentially, helping us to understand the present in ways that have previously been out of reach, to enable us to better predict the future. With the ever-increasing speed and agility of modern computing power, combined with the cognitive abilities of AI, the possibilities could be endless. But how can your organization take advantage of this? What exactly is a Digital Twin and how can it be applied to your organization?
In this session we will discuss:
- Defining the use case – Are you ready for Digital Twin deployment? Augmented Reality vs. Simulations vs. Digital Twin discussed.
- How to determine where digital twinning can be effectively deployed in your organization?
- What processes and technology do you need in place for Digital Twin deployment? Strategies for determining the right toolset for your project that fits with your organizations technical maturity.
- The benefits of combining IT and OT for your organization.

Presentation: Federating Digital Twins
The National Digital Twin (NDT) is envisaged to be an ecosystem of connected digital twins that will help to increase the performance of our existing built environment and improve the delivery of new infrastructure assets. It promises enormous value for the people of the UK and is supported by infrastructure policy from the National Infrastructure Strategy, through the Construction Playbook to the recent Transforming Infrastructure Performance report.
The digital twin market is already taking off, but connecting digital twins is all about interoperability – enabling secure resilient information flow across organisational and sector boundaries – which is an essential enabler for achieving net zero, climate resilience and the circular economy. But this requires a level of data quality and consistency that the market alone cannot initiate; it requires government-level leadership to create the conditions that will enable the connected digital twin market to develop and thrive.
This session will:
- Introduce the National Digital Twin programme
- Provide a tangible example of its value
- Explain the essence of its technical foundation
